Congress Dispute Over Dreamers

Congress Dispute Over Dreamers

Last week, House Speaker Paul Ryan implied that he had no intention of reaching a solution on DACA before March 2018. House Representatives across the aisle are speaking up, urging Ryan and their colleagues to find a solution for the hundreds of thousands of undocumented young adults before the new year.

Two California Republican Representatives have joined this push for a speedy resolution on DACA - David Valadao (R-Hanford) and Jeff Denham (R-Turlock). Both are working to get signatures on a letter to Ryan, stressing the need to help "these hard-working young people.”

While both Reps are pushing further support of this letter, they are not yet ready to join House Democrats in voting against spending bills that don't offer a solution. Many Democrats have expressed a willingness to vote against any spending bills and thereby shutdown the government unless a DREAM Act is included.
