DACA’s Future

DACA’s Future

Last night, the Senate began its first major debate in the last five years to determine the fate of DACA and DACA recipients. Senator John Cornyn (R) put pressure on the debate, stating that a decision must be made by Thursday before a congressional recess next week. Adding even more pressure is the March 5th deadline, the date on which DACA recipients can begin being deported if their benefits have not been renewed - It’s estimated that 1,000 people could lose their DACA protection on March 5th.

The President’s action to end DACA has been brought to the Supreme Court when a federal court blocked the decision. The Supreme Court Justices will meet this Friday to discuss the matter. If they decide to hear the case, the announcement could come as soon as Friday afternoon.
